MAKING OF THE KING PART 16

Hey,

I was talking to Mark today about what makes a script interesting? In elite film schools they talk about the details all the time but can you as a writer go overboard in listing everything.Mark told me to keep in simple unless its for story reasons or needs to set the tone.

A big inspiration of mines has been his video "Got til Its Gone".Mark revealed to me that Janet allowed him to be free with the concept and that the idea came from a discontinued magazine called DRUM and the photos of Malick Sidibe, who I am now in love with.

I guess for my film the style comes from Sidibe and Michael Ochs, the Motown photographer who captured everyone from Diana Ross to the Soul Train gang for publications like Soul Beat and Right On! magazine and such classic 70s shows like Flip Wilson,American Bandstand, and Midnight Special.
