MAKING OF THE KING PART 19






I'm still finishing up the script to the King of Pop movie and thinking about casting constantly.I know I would want some of my actors to reprise like Alicia Keys as Suzanne De Passe,Ice Cube as Berry,Pam Grier and Howard Hewett as Joe and Katherine.But two of the most important roles is the two women I think confused and perplexed Michael the most in his life.His on again off again true love Ms.Brooke Shields and his video dream girl Ms.Tatiana Thumbtzen.

When it came to Ms."T", I already knew who I wanted a long time ago.If anyone remembers the realms of Reality TV and that god awful mess of a modeling agency called ANTM or for us not working on our signature walk American's Next Top Model.One of the hopefuls who got lost in the shuffle was a Arizona girl by the name of Leslie Mancia.But this girl is a dead ringer(I'M NOT KIDDING) for MJ's video lover.She was cut and never seen again but she is Tatiana Thumbtzen-SEE PHOTO

In finding Brooke,no girl who is an actress is going to give you that height and look so it comes down to an actress who can give you look and you work on height.A few months ago before the end of the legendary lesbian series L Word went off the air there was a character who seemed oddly based on Lindsay Lohan named Nikki Stevens.Looking at her,she isn't a bad Brooke Shields.She's short,but that's why God invented high heels.So take a look at the two casting ideas for MJ's soul mates: MS. T and MS.BROOKE.

FADE IN:

Glittery rhinestones lay outlined in a thick white border
that are graciously topped with a small crown sitting above
the letter "i" in king-- they spell out the title:

OVER BLACK, GRAPHIC TITLE CARD:"D.Nesmith's The King of Pop"

CUT TO BLACK:

The second part is the original meeting between Stephanie Mills(MJ's first and only black girlfriend not counting Ms.Ross)and Michael.I wanted it to be verbatim like Mills stated but there wasn't enough time or revelance to the story.Here it is unedited:

INT.BROADWAY THEATER-NIGHT

The darkness of a Broadway theater is completely reminiscent
of a baroque painting. The glow from the spotlights
illuminates the faces of the transfixed audience. Music from
the orchestra pit adds to the atmosphere of the production
upon the stage. Walking to the footlights while looking out
into the crowd, STEPHANIE MILLS sings HOME—

STEPHANIE MILLS
(singing)
maybe there’s a chance for me to go
back now that I have some direction
...love and affection and just
maybe I can convince time to slow
up and give me enough time in my
life to grow up...

AUDIENCE Amongst the crowd, lost in the voice of Stephanie
Mills—Michael watches her, getting lost in her performance
and the meaning of her words.

STEPHANIE MILLS
(O.S)
Time be my friend....let me start
again...suddenly my world has gone
and changed its face but I still
know where I’m goin...

STAGE

Swaying underneath the crinoline of her dress,Stephanie
sings with passion to the audience underneath the spotlights
of the stage. Hitting the last notes of the song, the red
velvet curtains close to the thunderous applause.

The orchestra goes into He’s the Wizard as the crowd begins
to exit the theater out the doors.

DRESSING ROOM

DANCER
(talking loudly)
Oh wee that was a fabulous show
tonight, you hear me chile!!

The chatter of the backstage dressing room fills the air,
dancers change while the performers are being “dismantled”
by the makeup department. Sitting in a high vanity chair,
sipping on a Coke, Stephanie looks at herself in the mirror.

She looks out the door at PHOTOGRAPHERS and PRESS AGENTS
dodging for a glimpse or an interview from the cast.
Stephanie’s braided ponytails tie off with ribbons has been
undone, allowing a woman to emerge from this child like
character. Listening to the talk outside, she HEARS a
distinct voice—-

MICHAEL JACKSON
(O.S)
Oh I loved it....it was truly
wonderful performance…I love the
theater.

Stephanie recognizes it immediately, in a split second she
hops out of her chair and rushes out to the doorway. Peering
down the hall(looking at a group of photographers),Stephanie
sees Michael.She takes her time, step after step,approaching
him.

Michael is still talking to the photographers when he feels
a soft tap on his shoulder—-

MICHAEL JACKSON
(turning around)
Yes?

Michael looks down at the 4”9 star in front of him,
Stephanie just stands there—-beaming.

STEPHANIE MILLS
(at a lost for words)
Hi, I’m Stephanie, Stephanie Mills.

MICHAEL JACKSON
(smiling)
I know—I thought you were great, do
you like it?

Stephanie's POV-Stephanie stares into Michael’s eyes, she
gets lost in his smile.Starring at his perfectly white
teeth, Stephanie forgets what she’s talking about.

MICHAEL JACKSON
(confused)
Ms. Mills, Stephanie?

Stephanie regains her composure--

STEPHANIE MILLS
(smirking)
Yes I love it very much, say can I
ask you a question….would you have
dinner with me?

Stephanie’s cast members watch from the doorway as she tries
to ask out Michael Jackson,they wait as patiently for the
response as she does. Michael thinks for a moment—-biting
his lip.

MICHAEL JACKSON
(shy)
I dunno...I’m sorry I’m flying back
to California tonight...I guess...

Michael is clearly shy, she can tell--

STEPHANIE MILLS
(smiling)
I’m suppose to be goin' to
California so—

Stephanie pulls out a pen.

STEPHANIE MILLS
(uncapping the pen)
Why don’t you give me your number?

Michael looks at the pen in Stephanie’s hand, he thinks for
a moment. He doesn’t socialize very often especially with
girls.After a moment, he gathers up the confidence and
scribbles his number down on the back of Stephanie’s Play
Bill.

SECURITY GUARD
(grabbing Michael's shoulder)
Mike we gotta go.

MICHAEL JACKSON
(waving)
Goodbye.

STEPHANIE MILLS
(seductive)
Bye.

Stephanie runs back to the giggles and whispers of her cast
mates in the doorway, waiting on the scoop to what just
unfolded.

This is the rough title card of The J5ive.I've been trying to upload it and finally its online,next week will be the King of Pop.Just ignore the over black because when I figure out the rest of the cast(ie The Jackson 5) then it will be filled.

Hey:

This is it for the evening.I posted a little bit of the script in the fan communities for Michael Jackson.There are millions of Michael Jackson fan clubs all over the world ranging in languages of Hindi to German.I making the films for the fans so I was dishearten to see people telling me they don't want another me because of the previous attempts like I would make Michael white or have Flex Alexander reprise his role. Everyone seems to think writers can't do him justice so I'm done with that.I have created a link to the original rough drafts of The J5ive and The King of Pop so everyone can read and see what the look and style of the intended films looks like.Its a global web address so everyone can download and read the script.

MAKING OF THE KING PART 16




Hey,

I was talking to Mark today about what makes a script interesting? In elite film schools they talk about the details all the time but can you as a writer go overboard in listing everything.Mark told me to keep in simple unless its for story reasons or needs to set the tone.



A big inspiration of mines has been his video "Got til Its Gone".Mark revealed to me that Janet allowed him to be free with the concept and that the idea came from a discontinued magazine called DRUM and the photos of Malick Sidibe,who I am now in love with.

I guess for my film the style comes from Sidibe and Michael Ochs,the Motown photographer who captured everyone from Diana Ross to the Soul Train gang for publications like Soul Beat and Right On! magazine and such classic 70s shows like Flip Wilson,American Bandstand, and Midnight Special.

BIOPICS ARE THE NEW BLACK FILM TREND





Above is a great website on a indie film company which is looking for work known as The Film Department.Was interested in querying them but not so sure,the project needs to be made soon.If you look at www.imdb.com, there are over a dozen black biopics ranging from Marvin Gaye,Missy Elliot,Tupac,Rick James,Winnie Mandela just too name a few.It seems like everyone is in the biopic business nowadays.

RARE MICHAEL JACKSON V. TATE O' NEAL









INT.ROLLS ROYCE-DAY

TATUM O'NEAL,14 year old wild child is trying to show
Michael how to drive, switching gear shifts in his brand new
sky blue Rolls Royce.A gift for his birthday, Michael can't
even drive it.

TATUM O'NEAL
(pointing to stick shift)
Okay, now put it in drive

MICHAEL JACKSON
(confused)
Which one?

TATUM O'NEAL
(pointing to the "D")
That one!

Michael shifts the car--

TATUM O'NEAL
(yelling)
THE BRAKE,THE BRAKE!!!

Michael slams the brakes.

MICHAEL JACKSON
(angry)
What?!

TATUM O'NEAL
(direct)
Listen to me, now go.

Tatum sitting in the passenger seat directs Mike in the
driver seat.They practice along the property, driving up and
down the circle driveway.

MICHAEL JACKSON
(soft falsetto)
This isn't hard.

Michael gets the hang of it when SUDDENLY he hits a statue--
Joe rushes outside.

JOE JACKSON
(yelling)
MICHAEL!!!... What the hell are you
doin' out here? You know you can't
drive, turn that damn car off, you
both get out now!!!!

INT/EXT.HAYVENHURST-CONTINUOUS

Michael and Tatum stroll the grounds of the house in the
bright sun light.Showing her animals and places, Tatum
enjoys the walk.They start to talk--

MICHAEL JACKSON
(walking and talking)
You never talk about your mother...

TATUM O'NEAL
(bitter)
There's nothing to say.

Tatum's light green eyes go into a scowl.Walking along and
swinging her arms, Michael notices a cut on her arm.He
touches it.

MICHAEL JACKSON
(looking at Tatum's arm)
What's that?

Tatum pulls her arm away.

TATUM O'NEAL
(upset)
Its nothing...there is some stuff
with my mom...I just hate her.

MICHAEL JACKSON
(confused)
How could you hate her,your mother?

They take a seat on the grass together--

TATUM O'NEAL
(playing with the grass)
She never really took care of me, I
took care of myself and my brother,
she would leave us for days...all
alone...no food...that's not a mom.

Michael looks at her with sympathy.

MICHAEL JACKSON
(soft falsetto)
What about your dad?

TATUM O'NEAL
I see him sometimes...I take care
of myself.

MICHAEL JACKSON
That's really sad...its tragic
really.

TATUM O'NEAL
Why?...do you like your dad...
because every time I came over you
call him Joseph, not Dad...Why?

Michael is silent--

MICHAEL JACKSON
(angry)
He's not a father, he never
was...we call him Joseph because
that's the way he wants it...

TATUM O'NEAL
(intrigued)
So, your close to your mom right?

MICHAEL JACKSON
(smiling)
Yes,my mother is a saint..but your
so strong, that's why I like you.

Tatum leans against him.

MICHAEL JACKSON
(smiling)
Your a survivor..and...I wanna be
like that.

Tatum lays her soft dirty blond hair on Michael's shoulder,
wrapping her arms around his.As her soft baby pink skin lays
against his smooth cocoa complexion, they are different yet
the same.

TATUM O'NEAL
(sweetly)
I really like you Michael...I like
being with you...your the nicest
person I know.

MICHAEL JACKSON
(smiling)
Thanks.

They look out into the distance.

DOORWAY--

Walking back to the house, the two teens wait on the steps.
They stand in the doorway of Hayvenhurst, looking inside
thoughts race through their heads. Michael and Tatum search
each other eyes, Tatum knows what she wants.

TATUM O'NEAL
(seductive)
Can I come in?

Michael shakes his head.

MICHAEL JACKSON
(smiling)
Joseph wouldn't like it.

TATUM O'NEAL
He doesn't like me.

MICHAEL JACKSON
He doesn't like anyone.

Tatum licks and pouts out her lips,she's teasing in a manner
way beyond her years.Looking at Michael, she grabs his hand.
He pulls away--

MICHAEL JACKSON
(trying not to make eye
contact)
I should go...back inside...my
brothers need me...

TATUM O' NEAL
(getting closer)
What are you afraid of?

Michael doesn't answer.

MICHAEL JACKSON
(inching towards the door)
I should really go inside.

Michael steps inside when Tatum grabs him again--

TATUM O' NEAL
(looking down at Michael's
hand)
Wait...I wanna ask you something?

Michael smiles at Tatum, she gets lost in his brilliant
white smile.Michael looks at her--

MICHAEL JACKSON
(smiling)
What is it?

TATUM O' NEAL
(flirting)
When can I see you again?

MICHAEL JACKSON
(smiling back)
I dunno...were suppose to be going
to the Caribbean....I call you.

TATUM O' NEAL
(flirting)
Promise...right?

Michael rolls his big doe eyes.

MICHAEL JACKSON
(smiling back)
Okay.....

Tatum stands on her tip toes to get close to him, looking
into his eyes, Tatum kisses Michael.

TATUM O' NEAL
(smirking)
Bye...

With a toss of her golden feathered hair, Tatum races down
the steps to her car.Though she is only a preteen, she can
drive.Something her boyfriend can't do.Getting in the car,
Tatum starts it up and heads out.
